Check Credit Report For Tenants
2010

Someone connected to an apartment contract, if they are victims of violence?
My sister and her boyfriend moved in an apartment of a couple of months. Signed a contract saying they were both tenants. However, never had a credit check, etc, and said she would only live there. The owner said both had to sign the document. Now his piece of shit boyfriend early punched in the face and verbally abusive to her. What happened last year and stayed with him the hope that would change. It even had a full police report. Thank God, finally moved. Now the owner said he is fully responsible of all other income and not work with him (or contracting to pay two months' rent while looking for a new tenant). My sister said it is easier to manage later, as it has a steady job, owns his own business and do not claim their actual income. I know she needs a lawyer, but she is responsible for the end of contract lease? Thanks.
The short answer is: Perhaps the state. Not identify. (State law differs from state to state.) But many if not most states do not allow domestic violence victims to break a lease. In general, these laws allow people who have a temporary protection order to report an emergency or police of domestic violence to terminate his contract without cause extra income. These laws were created to protect victims of violence domestic violence, sexual assault and harassment. I recommend obtained a copy of the police report and attach a letter explaining that he must break the lease for his own safety. Also should Google owns housing law in your state to determine whether victims of domestic violence are allowed to break a lease. If so, must attach a copy of the law to its letter.
