Pre-employment credit check–is it legal?
My new job has asked me to fill out a form that gives them permission to obtain Criminal Information, Credit Report, Background Report and Post-hire Investigation. I don’t mind the criminal and background check, but why would they need a credit report. I don’t want to give them authorization do check my credit. Why would they need to?????
It’s increasingly common, as many feel it is a good indicator of your judgement and ethics.
It’s perfectly legal for them to ask, it’s perfectly for you to turn them down, and it’s perfectly legal for them to hire someone else other than you.
