A collection agency contacted me about a debt that is no longer on my credit file. Should I pay?
This position is a Credit card was charged almost 10 years ago. It is no longer on my credit file. In fact, he waited several years until almost all from my report and then began rebuild my credit for a year and a half and my FICO score is now 680. I've never been late on a payment on restoring my credit if my credit history is short of what is now lower. Anyway, I received a letter yesterday from a collection agency debt seeking $ $ for an old credit card that I had forgotten. As I said, this is no longer on my credit file at all. It's only $ 700, then perhaps I could talk to him until about $ 400, but not really have an extra $ 400 there. If I have to pay? What would be the worst case senario if you do not pay? What if I get paid? What are my rights in this situation? Help!
