Please someone help me! Landlord will not update my credit report.?
I had a judgement against me for $947 in 2005. In december 2007 i paid this judgement in full. the landlord said they will get this cleared up back in december 07. It is now May 2008 and they still have not updated my credit report as paid. I have disputed these charges at least 3 times at the credit bureaus. Still nothing. I have called these apartments and they give me the run around saying call back she’s not in the office. Today when i called for the 2nd time they let the voicemail pick up which was linked to a cell phone. I think they are playing games. I am trying to buy a house and if this gets in the way i am going to cause a scene. Every single debt on my credit report is paid and reported as paid except for this one. I have the receipt and the money order that shows proof. Today i have filed a complaint with FTC. i dont’ know what they can do but i hope they can do something. I wonder if this is illegal and i wonder if i can sue. I’m at my witts end.

Judgments are public records. If you dispute this with the credit bureau, they will just contact the court and see that the judgment is still there.
It will depend on which state you live in, but someone has to file a “satisfaction of judgment” with the court. In many states, you can do that yourself. Just send a letter to the court with a copy of the judgment (or some identifying information on the case), and a copy of the canceled check, money order, and receipt (whatever you have). The court will then process the paperwork to get this judgment satisfied. Then you can get a copy and send that to the credit bureau.
In some states this can only be done by the plaintiff. Once paid, they have a certain amount of time to file this paperwork, and if they don’t you can file a complaint with the court. The court will hit them with a fine.
Bottom line…call your courthouse and ask the clerk what their procedure is and what you need to do. This will be fixed within 30 days.
