How can I get a credit card? I am getting declined?
I am new to the US.. I am permanent resident and I’m in the US Army (Active)… I have a mortgage with my husband (but it doesn’t show on my credit report) but that’s it… I would like to purchase a car and even get a credit card for an emergency… I’ve tried to get a Military star card and it was declined automatically and so I tried for a credit card through USAA and it was also automatically declined… I would like to improve my credit score because I don’t have one.. what can I do to make this happen?
Call the credit card agencies and find out why you are getting declined.
Have you ever owned a credit card before? It could be that you have no credit history which you now need to build. Having a good job does not automatically mean you get a credit card.
Start with a secured card. You’re pretty much guarenteed to get one. Here’s how it works; you leave a deposit on the bank and they approve you 100 – 200% of that amount. If you default on payment, they use the deposit. Otherwise, the deposit just stays there and earns a little interest for about a year.
In a year’s time, they review your payments and so on with the card. If they are regular and timely, they’ll reward you with a normal unsecured credit card.
Goodluck!
