Credit Report Verification Number
2010

I’ve sent my resume to a few companies that listed openings online…?
And in some of the emails I have gotten, they are asking me to do a credit report and sent me to a link to fill out an online credit report for their credit check, and give them the verification number. Is this a scam?
Anyone directing you to a specific link for a credit report is always a scam. These sites are not legitimate – you are just giving all of your financial details and SSN (and often credit card number) to scammers who commit identity theft and start opening credit cards and taking out loans in your name. NEVER click on any link in any email – especially with regards to a job asking you to go to a site for a credit check, background check or skills assessment test.
If it’s a legitimate employer, tell them you will bring a copy of your credit report to the job interview when you meet. NEVER send this info to someone you haven’t even met or verified they actually work for the company they claim to represent. You can get your own credit check from Experian, Equifax or TransUnion – any legitimate company would accept a credit report from one of the three biggest credit reporting agencies.
These scams are all over the internet, especially if you apply to jobs on Craigslist or have your resume posted on sites like Careerbuilder. Don’t believe any of them
