What is done to people who steal credit card numbers to make fraudulent purchases?
I discovered someone had placed charges on my credit card. I called one of the merchants and they were able to give me the woman’s name, address, phone #, and e-mail and when I called the credit card company to cancel my card, they could care less about the info I had collected. So now that I know who did this, what am I supposed to do with the information? Do you report it to police or what? The merchant is the one who gets hurt by this stuff, but it’s a pain in the but to have to cancel cards and it happens to me and my husband several times a year. It’s inconvenient and for once I’d like something to be done.
Unfortunately, very little happens to the crooks. It was a waste of your time to track down the culprit. Just disputed the charges with the credit card company. The credit card will back charge the merchant and it becomes the merchant’s problem to pursue the crook.
