Help – NCO FIN/99 on my credit report!?
I need help. I am going to move soon and I just checked my credit report, to find that my score has fallen by 200 points in the last year! There was a negative item on the report from NCO/FIN 99 and the only listed ways to contact them are a PO Box # and a phone number with an answering machine and a full mailbox. I disputed the account, and now it’s listed as “potentially negative” and “closed” but I just want to get it off. It’s not a large charge, and I’d rather just pay it and have it go away than screw me over when I apply for apartments. Help??
Here is there website if you want to contact them and pay the amount owed: http://www.ncogroup.com/ . Make sure you get an agreement with them in writing that states if you pay them whatever the settlement amount is they will remove derogatory listings from your credit reports. This company buys junk debt and tries to collect it they are real crappy business.
If you contact them and you decide not to pay them you can sue them http://www.westopdebtcollectors.com or use a credit repair company to move forward. If you want to handle it yourself use the following plan below.
Stay off the phone, and do everything in writing and by certified mail, return receipt requested. Also be sure to put the certified# on the letter itself and keep a copy for your records. This is very important as it proves exactly what you sent.
By the means above, simply send a dispute to each affected credit bureau. Simply state it is not your account and you want it removed immediately. Also exercice your rights under the FCRA and demand copies/records of all correspondence used in the dispute verification process.
Now, send a dispute letter to NCO financial where you clearly dispute the debts. Do not sign this letter, print only. In this letter, clearly demand to see the signed contract that created the alleged debt, as well as a full account history and itemization of all charges. And demand proof that they are legally entitled to collect on the debt, and if they claim to own it demand to see the purchase contract, proof of payment, and complete chain of title.
If they fail to respond and/or correct the situation to your satisfaction you sue them, as you have just built your entire case.
