Disputing Credit Reports By Phone

How do I cancel Identity Theft Alert on my credit reports?
I’m an idiot. I’m trying to improve my credit, I got one measly credit card and it’s at a 0 balance now, and while perusing my credit report last week I saw $78 charge off from Verizon Wireless. That’s BS cause I’ve had my verizon wireless service for 5 years, if they had to charge something off, you would think my phone would be turned off. But anywho, I tried to dispute that item, and accidentally hit the Alert For Fraud or something similar, because I’m not too bright. That 78 dollar charge was fraudulent, no?
So yeah, it was my goal once I got the one credit card paid off, then I would open another small one and pay that off, too. Well I tried that today and my plans were thwarted by this dumb ass Identity Theft thing. If someone stole my identity, they would drive by my house and throw it back on my lawn the next day. It’s worthless.
Anyone know what I can do? Numbers I can call? Or do I just have to wait out the 90 days?
You can go ahead and apply for the additional card. The alert won’t stop the company from doing the credit inquiry. You should just get notification of the inquiry. Fraud alert isn’t the same as a credit freeze.
But before you apply for another credit card, how long have you had that first one — more than a year? If it has not been a year, wait. Just keep using the card you have and paying it in full every month. This is the best way to build a good credit history.
Did you at least send a dispute to the credit bureau for that Verizon charge? If the dispute doesn’t get the item removed, you will have to send a certified, return receipt letter to the collection agency requesting validation of the debt to include copies of contracts and other documentation proving the debt is yours. Give them 30 days. If they dont’ respond, send another dispute to the credit bureau with a copy of you validation request, indicating that the collector failed to validate. That will get the item removed.
By the way, you need to check your credit report for all three credit bureaus and dispute the account with each credit bureau showing the Verizon debt.
