Equifax Credit Report Discrepancies
2010
Can the credit bureau make a mistake with your credit score even your credit report is accurate?
I know that credit bureaus can make mistakes regarding your credit report and this in turn can hurt your credit score. I’ve been there and done that and in the last month of so I was able to raise my credit score by over 120 points through the dispute process. I am a member with Transunion and it gives me my credit scores from all three credit bureaus. For some reason, however, there seems to be a discrepancy with my Equifax score. According to the Equifax website it’s over 100 points lower than the Equifax score Transunion gives and what I’d expect it to be given the items I had deleted. My Equifax credit report looks accurate and up to date. So for the life of me I can’t understand why it is so much lower than the others and seems to have changed very little despite a drastic improvement in the content of my credit report. What’s the deal?
There are two reasons for different scores:
1. The credit bureaus do not always have the same information because not all creditors report to all three bureaus.
2. The three bureaus use differing score calculation algorithms – so you are comparing apples to oranges.
