False collection on credit report?
Today I was viewing my credit report and noticed how it said I had 1 collection. I almost had a stroke when I opened the page.
It states that I have a $11,000 debt. The Creditor Classification is marked Medical/Health Care, yet the creditor name is of an apartment complex where I used to rent.
My husband was undergoing a PCS when we left the apartment and that is the only issue I can think of that we had with that apartment. I’m wondering why it was filed and why under medical/health.
I have filed a dispute through Equifax and am wondering if that’s all I can do at this point? I googled the company name and found this – http://www.ag.ny.gov/media_center/2009/dec/dec21a_09.html
Thanks in advance for any help!
Credit Reports can make mistakes.
It might be a bill that just got mis-classified.
Check all three of your credit reports.
Some collection companies only report to one bureau to save money.
You may have other collectors after you if you just checked one of your reports.
