Equifax Credit Report Fraud

Identity theft advice?

Hello all,

I’ve just recieved application refusals for bank accounts I have NOT applied for. Obviously, this looks like identity theft/fraud.

I’d like to protect myself, but am very confused about what to do. It seems that there are 3 credit report agencies: Experian, Equifax and Call Credit. Do you think I would have to rgister with them all? It seems to be a vey expensive way to protect myself (and what if loads more pop up…..would I have to pay them all monthly fees as well?!).

I have no experiance of this whole area, so any advice would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

It’s actually not hard or expensive. You request a “freeze” which is nothing more than a lock on credit reports that you control. If you file a police report or FTC complaint of ID theft based on your bank incident, you won’t even have to pay for the freezes; it’ll be totally free!

Once your credit reports are locked, people won’t be able to apply for stuff in your name anymore and you’ll basically be immune to credit-based ID theft. See the links I attached for more details.
