beware! have you checked your credit report lately.?

friends i was feeling bored because i had nothing to do when something occurred to me to check my husband’s credit report. after i set up the account i have been receiving credit alerts. can you believe that in less than 2 weeks there has been 8 fraudulent credit card accounts in my husbands name? apart from those that have already been processed there are as many as 9 enquiries that are underway to be processed. please a little money to protect your credit will save you tons of time trying to fix your credit. the saddest thing is the person has been so bold as to call equifax to change our current address to his or hers. well, a word to the wise is enough

Well that’s not really a question but my advice is to you is:

Call Your Local Police or Sheriff
They are the first stop in reporting identity theft.

Place a Fraud Alert on Your Credit Reports
You can learn how at https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/helpfaq#fraudalert

Freeze Your Credit Reports
If your state has a law on the books, you can lock your credit reports with a PIN number. Typically, this is free for victims of identity theft. You can find out if this is a possibility in your state and instructions on how to do it here:

Visit the ID Theft Resource Center
This non-profit group helps people recover from identity theft at no charge. Their “Victim Resources” page is here:

Everyone: Yes, you should check your credit report regularly but you don’t have to spend a dime to do it. Just visit http://www.annualcreditreport.com three times a year.

The author seems to be recommending credit monitoring. I do not. These services do nothing to prevent identity theft. At best, they will alert you of it after it has happened.

If you wish to truly prevent financial identity theft, you should freeze your credit reports. You can find a collection of links on the topic here:

Good luck,
Jeff
