Experian Credit Reporting Companies
2010
Which credit reporting company scores highest?
I recently discovered that you can get one free credit report from each of the three companies for free each year. I got my TransUnion one and my credit score was 651. Is this any good?
Also which of three agencies generally score you higher? Would Experian or Equifax be higher or lower than my 651 from TrasUnion?
Ask 3 people, and you’ll likely get 3 different answers. For me, TU is highest, EX is my median score, and EQ is the lowest.
Credit is akin to a motion picture and credit scores are a still picture snapshot of the movie. The score is valid only for a point in time. Knowing what’s in your credit report is much more valuable than knowing your credit score.
When it comes to scores, there are all kinds. Everyone’s momma’s brother offers credit scores through a monitoring service, and most of them are FAKOs–meaning they likely aren’t used by any lender.
FICO scores from Fair Isaac Corporation are the only scores that really matter as they are used by the majority of lenders. Some lenders, like AMEX, pull your credit reports but their own internal scoring scheme.
If you don’t know your FICO scores at all, and are dying to know, head over to myfico.com and buy them. However, before buying anything on myfico, check creditboards for a current myfico discount code. Go here, and go to the last page of the thread. You want a 20% discount code.
