Experian Free Credit Report Dispute

credit report disputes?

I don’t get it. We have the right to a free credit report and ability to dispute information but the company that “investigates” the dispute just kicks it back and says its verified?? I am a victim of identity theft and trying to clear my credit back up. I’ve made a police report and disputed the charges online through Experian. They say “This item was verified on Apr 2009 and remained unchanged. ” HOW did they verify it? Do they call up the creditor and ask hey does he owe money and they say yes and close my dispute? What other options do I have?

First of all, filing a dispute on line does not work! There is a specific way to dispute with the CRA’s and it is outlined by the FTC at the following link

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre21.shtm

You will find a sample dispute letter there also. Send the dispute via certified mail/return receipt requested so you have a record of filing (keep copies of the letter).

Here is another link to show you what to do when you have become a victim of ID theft (also from the FTC)

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/microsites/idtheft/

Or you can file a dispute directly with FICO at this link online

Hope this helps answer your question
