Free Credit Report – What Do These Services Offer You

Need a free credit report? This article will explain why you would need to view your credit report and if there really is a free credit report service. Find out what is available when you order a report.

If you have decided to investigate your current financial status in the eyes of lenders then you can access your report for free. You will, however, have to provide a credit card to verify your identity. Many companies will offer a 7 day free trial which allows you to go through your report to see your score and which section are damaging your score. After the 7 day trial, you should expect to pay around $15/month, which is highly recommended, especially if you have decided to try and repair your credit rating.

If you dont want to carry on with your account then you simply email the administration of the website to cancel your account and no funds will be taken from your registration details such as your credit card. You must ensure that the company you join is highly reputable which would make you feel much safer about handing over your credit card details.

Why Use A Credit Report Provider:

There are many vital reasons why you should have regular access to your credit information and the most popular reason is related to identity theft. As identity theft is on the rise, you never know when and if you will be targeted but if you check your credit file on a regular basis then you can investigate any transactions that you believe to be fraudulent such as unknown credit card, loan or mortgage applications that show up. You can act much faster and stop the fraudster before any application is either accepted or declined as this could cause many issues.

Another good reason would be that you want to know your current credit situation if you are planning on applying for a credit card, personal loan or a mortgage. If you dont want to be declined then your credit rating must be good, you can also take advantage of the better interest rates if you have a good file. You can get a complimentary credit report once per year from the credit bureaus but if you wish to manage yours on an on going basis then a subscription to such service is ideal.

Different credit report companies will offer different services but the four main sections that will always be included are the following:

Personal Information:

Basic details such as your name, current and previous addresses, date of birth and social security number. This will also include your employment history which is ideal as you can check for errors before you move on to the rest of the file.

Matters Of Public Record:

Any public records that are related to your credit will be posted here such as bankruptcy, tax liens, foreclosures, or court disputes.

Payment Record:

This is the main section and is where the whole of your credit history is displayed. It explains and displays who has provided you credit, how much for how long and how diligent you have been paying them back. If you find anything here that you dont recognise then you should alert your lawyer or local authorities. If you have missed payments, then you will see which ones have caused you damage.

Credit Enquiries:

This will explain how many people have checked your credit rating. If you have applied for a loan, credit card, car credit or any type of money lending then the lender may access your credit file to see whether or not you can be trusted. If you dont recognise anything here then its time to investigate fraud.

As you can see from the above, accessing your free credit report is a fantastic idea but keeping your account active will allow you to manage your credit much more efficiently.
