Free Credit Report Information Equifax
2010
Why is it so difficult to obtain your credit score for free?
I went to www.annualcreditreport.com (a legitimate and free site) and received the three reports from Equifax, Transunion, and Experion. The reports list all of my credit cards and loans, but they leave out my score.
My question is: Why won’t they tell me my score?
Second question: Why do they collect all of this information, deny us free access, and hold it against us?
It drives me nuts.
PLEASE READ: The question pertains to the credit score and NOT the credit report.
Because credit scores aren’t free, period. There’s a law to receive your reports, but there isn’t a law about scores and companies will charge anything they can to make money.
Also, annualcreditreport.com itself does not offer scores for any prices. You have to purchase them from the bureaus directly or other Web sites.
If you’re willing to pay for your scores though, you should go to http://www.myfico.com. You can search for discount codes online. Myfico scores are true and accurate while other sites will give you inflated scores, which are also known as FAKOs, because they are false.
A credit score is just a number generalizing your credit reports. If your reports are true and accurate, then scores aren’t necessary on a constant basis. People should really only have the need to see scores when they are about to apply for credit in order to estimate their chances for approval.
But like I said before, because scores aren’t lawfully-mandated to be free, companies use them to make money.
