Creditreport.com has my SSN. Is that something I should worry about?

So recently I was duped by some listing on Craigslist.org and obviously failed to see some obvious signs of an online scam. I proceeded to fill out all the details on the website Creditreport.com which included my SSN. I cancelled my creditcard account and requested for a new account number and card. Now my question is – what to do about my SSN? If I filled out the form to get my “free” credit report at that site, am I automatically a member of the site and will be I be charged?

I know that’s a lot of questions but I’m just worried. I was so careful at first on Craigslist, researching all the little details before responding back to e-mails and such but that paranoia died down a bit and I got too relaxed with Craigslist. Be on your guard all the time peeps!

McAfee site advisor says they are a McAfee Secure site (where they check for spam, etc. daily). So it is legitimate. I am sure you can cancel the account but you’ll have to pay for anything beyond the free 30 day trial. People said they called to cancel and I recommend you do that.

You can get a credit report free from www.annualcreditreport.com (or log on to the Federal Trade Commission and click there www.ftc.gov). Lots of people get one report every four months if they want to make sure things are going OK rather than all three at once.

I am assuming you actually mean www.creditreport.com. Your SS# is as safe there as it is at any place, like your bank, that maintains online records.

I read the warning notes on craigslist each time I go on. Haven’t bought anything through it yet but they do have scammers on it.
