How can I get a free copy of my credit report? Preferably by mail.?
Do I need to write to the company? Thanks.
If you have a website you can note that down too but I would rather communicate by postal mail with the agencies.
By Federal Law each of the three major credit agencies are required to give you 1 free credit report every 12 months. To make it simple, the 3 agencies came together and created one official website for requesting your free report and for additional information. It’s the only site approved by the Federal Trade Commission.

To get your free mailed credit report requires downloading a request form from the above website, filling it out and mailing it to:

P.O. Box 105281
Atlanta, GA 30348-5281
They will mail your report within 15 days of receiving your request with a delivery time of 2-3 weeks. All this information is listed in the above link as well as how to order your report online or through phone.

As for Freecreditreport.com, it is actually run by Experian, a credit bureau, and does offer a free credit report, but includes a subscription for credit monitoring services. It’s only a free report if you cancel during the free trial so it’s not really free.
