Canadian debt and a US credit report.?
I have looked everywhere for this answer and cannot find it. Several years ago, I was talked into a vacation scheme from some high pressure sales tactics when I was visiting Canada. When I tried to book my vacations I received no responses and my free vacation was never given to me. I didn not pay on this account. Now they have reported it on my US credit report almost 6 years laters. Can a foreign debt appear on a US credit report. I know that debts paid timely in a foreign country cannot be transferred to a US credit report. A US collection agency is calling me on it but on my credit it appears with the original Canadian creditor. Please help – any links would be appreciated. Also, they have applied interest since the debt originated – our $5000 debt is now $11,000!
As far as the interest goes, you need to look at the contract you signed to see if it’s allowed.
Legally, you need to check the statute of limitations to see if they even have a legal case to sue you. I seriously doubt it but I’d need to research this a bit.
As for the collection report, yes it can be listed. But it’s just as easy to dispute it and get it removed. It can not stay on longer then 7 years, so just sit tight and wait for it to drop off.
