Why won’t they update my address?

My current address has been the same for 5 years. In the 2 years since the free credit reports began I have called one of the 3 agencies every 4 months for a free report via 877 322-8228 and EACH & EVERY time I must update by address even though it hasn’t changed. Why do they refuse to update my address? How do I get around that aggrevation each time I want a report? I called Transunion at 800 916-8800 and spoke to a human but they refused to send a report until after I explained why 877 322-8228 doesn’t work well. I want a free credit report every 4 months but I don’t want to be forced to update my address each time I call – especially since it doesn’t change more than once every 15 – 20 years. Thanks

First each of the credit agencies are independant of each other. So you must update your address with each of the 3 individually. annualcreditreport.com is really just a clearinghouse provided by the credit agencies and the government to make it simpler to get your reports at once.

Also, are they updating or verifying your address. With something like a credit report I would much rather prefer that they always get the current address rather than guessing. Sure it takes an extra couple of minutes even if they do have to update it every time, but it is time well spent to make sure they have the correct information.

If you really don’t want to deal with having to call and then waiting for the mail to come. Why not just go to http://www.annualcreditreport.com and get your report right then and there. If you get your report and have any incorrect addresses, you need to send in a dispute to have those removed. But remember you have to do it with each company individually.
