Get Credit Reports On Tenants
2010

As a landlord, what is the best way to obtain a full credit report on a potential tenant?
We are looking at renting out our house for the very first time. We have a renter that filled out an application, but we would like to do a credit check. We understand most renters have bad credit, but how bad it what we want to know. I hear the best way to get a good renter is to do get as much information up-front before deciding to let them move in, including talking to past landlords they may have had. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Unless you are in the business of renting properties, credit information through companies like First Advantage Safe Rent aren’t available. Since everyone is entitled to a free credit report ask your potential tenant to provide one. While we do check credit we give greater weight to job stability. Make sure you get a driver’s license number and social security number. Since this is your first time as a landlord make sure you are familiar with the landlord tenant laws in your state and what information is required to be contained in a lease.
