What LEGITIMATE site can I go to to get a free credit report?
I’m a little weary of giving my SS# to just any site. Can someone recommend one they’ve used and had no problem with? Isn’t there one run by the government? (.gov?)
Credit reporting agencies are private enterprises. They are not connected to any governmental agencies.
You cannot access your credit reports without first giving your
social security number.

This is a government sponsored site and the only true free site to get a free credit report. However, they do require that you give them your social security number.
