How can I build credit if no one wants to give me credit???
I currently have 0 credit. I’ve been out of college for a little over a year now and have tried to apply for a credit card recently with Chase. I got declined because they said I didn’t have enough credit history and suggested I apply for a store card because they are easier to get. So I did that and applied for a Target card. Got declined again due to the same reasoning. I have a full time job that pays well and I pay all my bills on time. However, those aren’t reflected in your credit report. I don’t know what to do. I am thinking about applying for a secured credit card with Wells Fargo. I’ve had a checking account with them for about a year now although I don’t keep a lot of money in there. I’m afraid of applying because they will run a credit check for the secured card even though it will be backed up by my account. I’m afraid of getting declined again and having that look negatively on my credit report since I already got declined twice. What should I do?
The credit card companies that generally are better to start credit are Cap One and Upromise from Citi Bank. Upromise is actually a card for graduates. These are unsecured cards. Go to www.creditcards.com and they compare all the current credit card offers. You can click on student cards to choose which card better meets your needs. Good luck.
