Credit Probelm! Help?
I just ordered my credit reports from all three bureaus. I have a couple things on my credit from when I was younger and decided not to pay the (yea i was smart). I looked at the online version of my report and seen that two were charged off. and two were sent to collectors. Im older now and want to get my credit straight. How do I go about paying off these debts or consolidating? which is better. What can i do about the charge offs? And should I contact the collectors to reach a settlement?
First how old are they debts? Just paying off old collections will not improve your credit rating.
There is absolutely nothing that can be done to remove charge-offs from your credit report. They will be reported for 7 1/2 years from date of first delinquency. This is a serious negative, however they do the most damage in the first two years.
The two collections that you have are probably on the same accounts as the charge-offs. The only way to improve your credit score with the collections is to negotiate a “pay for deletion” agreement with the collection agency. This means that in exchange for payment they will agree to completely remove the account from your credit history.
If they agree, get the deal in writing signed for by an authorized agent of the company, before you mail them a money order as payment.
