Order Credit Report Checking Account
2010

Why did Cox access my credit report when I paid them not to?
I set up my cox communications service and instead of them running my credit I paid the fee in order to get the account. I’m checking my credit report and they still ran my credit. Is this considered an unauthorized inquiry that I could get removed? Thanks!
no they gave me the option to either run my credit or to pay. i paid. If I didn’t pay they would have ran my credit and they would have denied me service due to poor credit and then told me to pay if I wanted approval.
I paid the activation fee + the fee not to run my credit. i remember clearly.
Do you have it in writing from Cox saying that if you paid the fee that your credit would not be pulled?
If not, I would be very skeptical of the person who told you that and who took your money. I find it hard to believe that Cox would request money in exchange for not checking reports, it may be possible though, or it may be that you were scammed.
Is the inquiry in the section of your credit report that is seen by all? Or is it in the section that is seen only by you?
If it was in the section seen only by you, and you did receive service from them, then you might just let it go. Inquiries in that section do not harm your scores and more than likely they didn’t get a full snapshot of your reports.
If it is in the section that is seen by all and if you have it in writing that they agreed to not pull, then you should call/write Cox and tell them to remove that inquiry, or for a refund of the money you paid.
If you find that it is not the policy of Cox to require money for not checking credit reports, and you have the proof of that offer, instead of calling you should write letters to their executive offices and explain what is going on, demand they remove the inquiry and that they refund your money, and also, to not turn your service off unless you fail to pay their real charges or you request an end to their services.
If they fail to act, file complaints with the BBB, the FCC, with your Attorney General and their Attorney General.
