Is it correct for any the three Major Credit Reporting Agencies to outsource services overseas?
On 19 February 2007 I contacted TransUnion, one of the three major Credit Reporting Agency (CRA). I contacted them because my user ID and password they had prescribed was not working. I asked a simple question to the lady which answered the phone. Due to her difficulty understanding what I was saying to her on the phone and my difficulty understanding her; it mad me curious as to whether she was located in the U.S. or overseas. I asked here exactly that; her response was “For security reasons I am not able to provide you with that information”. This automatically tells me that she is in fact located in a foreign country and has access to my most sensitive information. Fraud is ramped in today’s world and one of the three primary agencies’ who has access to my most personal information is outsourcing their customer service overseas. What is most surprising is I had submitted my concerns to governmental organizations and they provided no response as of yet.
A concerned citizen
It’s not just overseas centers. I’ve had difficulty eliciting information from centers in this country. Any reputable company should be required by law to tell its customers a street address where they can raise queries and file complaints. It would actually be good customer service. The world’s largest auto maker has screwed me around for over two years. I have PO Box number as their address but not a proper street address to mail out the lawsuit to them. In case anyone from General Motors Acceptance Corporation can actually read, I have news for you – you have lost a customer who is now going to buy Japanese because they seem to care more about their customers.
As to your actual question, yes, it is worrisome. It is wrong. It should be illegal not to tell. There is no security issue here – she just didn’t want to admit that you were paying (indirectly) for an international call.
