What should I do about collections on credit report?
I have several medical collections. some are over three years others are not. I tried the delete for pay letters and received no feedback. I don’t know what to do now? I am tempted to get a credit repair person to help me but really don’t want to spend about six hundred dollars (99 a month 6 months) for a possible when I can use the money to satisfy the debt I know I owe. What should I do? How will this impact my score? I am currently at a 485! I feel like I can’t get any worse can I? I pay everything with cash for the last two years. I want to purchase a home in the next year. Can I get some sound advice here please. and be realistic.
If you want to fix your credit so that you can purchase a house… focus on non-medical first. They are more forgiven on medical debt.
Make sure you start paying everything on time and try to send extra to pay of credit debt (if you have any) such as credit cards, car loans, or any other loans. Paying off your credit cards and stablishing a consistent on time payment record is crucial for your score to go up. Look at any old bills that are non-medical and call them up, see if they will offer you some type of payoff agreement…its better to pay off something at 50% off and have it taken out of your credit report than not pay it at all or have it in there while you pay it down slowly.
If you have small medical bills, pay off the most recent ones first. Leave the old ones for absolutely last…if at all. Because- again- lenders are more forgiven when it comes to medical bills. Of course- if it is medical for plastic surgery…no- since its not a necessary.
I think you said you have already mailed out letters disputing some charges? If you have not…go to your local library or search online for examples of good disputing letters. One of two things will happen when you send out a disputing letter…..1) they will remove the debt off your report if the collector does not respond within a certain period of time; 2) it will cause the collector to start pursuing you again.
Be patient….watch your spending. Time flies…good luck.
