Running Credit Report For Landlords

Can my Landlord sue for me for rent not paid.?

My roommate and I had a falling out. He was a drug dealer and had a tendency to make death threats when angry. He owned a Tec-9. I moved out and paid him my half every month being that we were on a joint lease. The lease ran from August 08-August 09. I got a call from a collections agency stating that I owe rent since April when it stopped being paid. Also the landlord told me that my roommate had orders to the military thus allowing him to be taken off the lease entirely. Now where does that leave me? Can he just leave like that take my money and not be held liable for anything? I am taking him to small claims court but the apartment complex states I owe them 7000$ for rent and collection costs. Had we not had a falling out and he joined the military would I still be left to pay the entire 900$ a month? Please Help…..This collections notice on my credit report has lowered the limits on two of my credit cards and disqualified me for a car loan. This is just ridiculous.

you owe the landlord. period. any agreement between you and your roommate has nothing to do with your agreement with the landlord. you lose
