Running Credit Reports For Employment
2010

Will filing Bankruptcy hurt my opportunities for employment in finance?
The past 2.5 years have been hell. Spouses Health problems, divorce, & now the economy forced me into Bankruptcy CH 7. I have been an Accountant for over 20 years & I’m good at my job. Most employers run Background checks which include a credit report. My credit score was above 700 until Dec. 08. Now it’s destroyed. I’m almost positive this is going to kill my opportunities while searching for a new job. When is the right time to divulge this information. Or should I just give in & pursue a new career?
What makes you so sure that every employer does background checks? That is like someone assuming that every mortgage broker was checking the accuracy of information on loan docs in 2004 and you know that was not true. I think that some employers do credit checks and some don’t. If I was an employer I would want you with the 20 years of experience over some college grad with a 700 FICO score. Most bankruptcies are done to expunge medical bills. You shouldn’t feel bad about this and I most surely would not bring it up. Bring up all of the positives however. Good Luck! May the road rise up to meet you!
