safe credit report websites
Employment question… can anybody help?

I have been applying to jobs on websites like Craigslist, etc. I get a few responses back but most of them are wanting me to use their link to a “Free credit” report before I have an interview with them. I am leary of this and respond to them that I will obtain my own credit report thru my reputable bank. After I nicely tell them that I do not feel comfortable using their link to get my credit report, they never email me again. Is it safe to say this is some sort of scam?

Those are all phishing scams to steal your identity and your money. NEVER click on any link asking you to do a credit report, you are providing all of your personal, bank and credit card details to a Nigerian scammer if you do. Always tell them that you already have an Experian or Equifax report that you will bring to the interview when you meet in person. Never provide any credit information before you visit them and confirm the company even exists. No company in the world will ask you to get a credit report before they can interview you – they wouldn’t bother doing a background check unless they met you and through they were interested, and only then if you were going to be handling money. If they don’t agree or don’t respond, you’ll know this was just a scam, unfortunately 80% of jobs posted on craigslist are nothing but scams.
