Three Credit Report Agencies Address
2010

If a bill that was reported to a collection agency is paid, will it still remain on your credit report?
Three years ago I had a prolonged illness and multiple medical bills, most of which were sent to my home address and promptly paid. I moved a few months later and had my mail forwarded to me, and had no indication of outstanding bills. Earlier this week I checked my credit report and was stunned to see three claims for unpaid bills from a treatment facility. I called and got the statement; it was processed over two years after the treatment! Apparently, there were snafus with insurance. If they’d sent me a letter or bills about this, as they claimed they did, it would have been forwarded to me along with everything else.
What can be done about this situation? If I pay the bills, will it be removed from my credit report? I’m trying to buy my first home and really need to have excellent credit.
No, if you pay the bills they will remain on your credit for at least 7 years.
But, paid items reflect better on you than unpaid items do.
I was in a similar situation, I had to wear a heart holter and it was sent to the hospital where I had my daughter for the results to be read. Well, the hospital did not get my current information, and attempted to mail the bills to the address I lived at when my daughter was born, 3 years earlier. I found the items on my credit report 2 years later.
After many headaches, I was able to update my information with the hospital, and my insurance actually paid the bill, as I was covered at the time, but the hospital did not have my insurance information. I am assuming my doctor did not give it to them.
After the debt was paid by my insurace, I disputed the item on all 3 credit bureaus, stating I was unaware of the bill due to them having inaccurate information, and it was cleared from my report.
My point, if you never received a bill in the mail due to them having inaccurate info, you could possible do what I did and have the items removed after they are paid.
Good Luck.
