Which is Reliable Credit Score Source?
I am trying to boost my credit score. As a part of this process, I am able to pay off most of credit card debt. Still little amount is remaining as compared to 4 months ago.
So I subscribed to freecreditreport.com and pulled my report and score. All Three major companies shows my score 700+.
I also subscribed to Score Watch on myfico.com and to my surprise it was 50 points less.
So I called My Fico customer service and she said Other sites calculate differently and we do it differently. and many lenders rely on fico score.
Who should I believe?
I’m not an expert at credit bureaus or credit scores but I’ll tell you what I know.
In answer to your question, you should believe the company who is offering you your FICO score and not a credit score. They are different.
From looking at freecreditreport.com this is a site that is run by the three major credit bureaus. It looks to me that the scores they offer are not true FICO scores but are a propriety score. You then obtained a true FICO score from myfico.com and thus you have four different scores. Remember the FICO score is just an algorithm that is applied against data obtained from one of the bureaus. These bureaus also have their own proprietary algorithm that they run against their data and offer this to you as a credit score but not a FICO score.
Just an FYI, the My Fico Score Watch product offers your FICO score obtained using the data from your Equifax credit report.
