when I check my credit report on free credit report.com….?
First, will it lower my score? I just recently paid off two collections one both 1,000 dollars, and I want to check and make sure they came off my report or at least say paid off with balance of zero. Also, will that lower my score since it was an old debt?
Freecreditreport.com is NOT the site to use — they want a monthly fee to “monitor” your credit. Do NOT use such “credit monitoring” services. Waste of your money, and the more places that have your credit info, the greater your risks of ID theft.
annualcreditreport.com is the official site where you can get the one free credit report per year from Experian, Trans Union and Equifax (the 3 major reporting agencies) as allowed under federal law. Do NOT sign up for their “credit monitoring services” either. Waste of money.
Be smart and proactive in protecting your documents, wallet, purse, etc. Balance your bank statements at least once a month. Verify every charge on you credit card statements. If anything is awry, you will detect it before the credit card companies do. And your info won’t be sold by so many “credit reporting” outfits.
